Biography

Dr Matthew Harries is Director of Proliferation and Nuclear Policy at RUSI, where he leads the institute’s programme of research on WMD issues. His own research interests include deterrence, arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament, and UK nuclear policy.

Before joining RUSI as a Senior Research Fellow in 2020, Matthew worked for the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee. Prior to that, he was Managing Editor of Survival and Senior Fellow for Transatlantic Affairs and Nuclear Policy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). He has previously worked as an Adjunct Professor of Strategic Studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Bologna, and as a Research Associate at the Centre for Science and Security Studies at King's College London.
