I don't think Russia is remotely serious about these negotiations. President Putin thinks he's winning...and he can play along. And at the moment there's talk about a meeting in Abu Dhabi next week, there's talk then about a meeting at the Shenzhen summit in China with President Xi present, in the middle of November, and then the G20 meeting in Miami in December. So this is going to allow Putin to play it long, certainly until mid-December, and give the impression that he's interested in bargaining...his position has not changed one iota since the start of this war - he still wants Ukrainian sovereignty."
