You get the impression that there hasn't been an overarching political strategy to this because if there had been you would have lined up your allies to at least be supportive in advance or indeed apportion different scales of effort. But this comes after President Trump has spent most of if the last year insulting NATO partners and indeed telling them they should focus on European problems and that is where they should put their military capability. So it's a bit much to now be saying, now send your forces outside of the Euro-Atlantic and focus elsewhere on a war that I've started without speaking to you."
