Recording: The Road to Ankara: A Stronger Europe, A Stronger NATO

This RUSI Europe webinar asks: what can we realistically expect from the Ankara summit? How can Europeans do more without weakening the bonds that keep the US committed? And how can burden-shifting strengthen, rather than fracture, the Alliance?

NATO leaders will face one of the Alliance’s most consequential summits in Ankara on 7-8 July. Washington has signalled it will earmark fewer forces for NATO, redirecting assets towards other theatres, even as Russia tests the Alliance through sabotage and incursions from South-Eastern Europe to the High North.

The challenge in Ankara is to keep the US engaged while accelerating a stronger European pillar within a stronger NATO, converting rising budgets into real capabilities, bolstering air defence and military mobility, and sustaining support for Ukraine.
