Bob Walsh

Biography

Bob Walsh is a specialist in trade sanctions and financial crime compliance, with a particular focus on the insurance sector. He is the Global Deputy Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Financial Crime Officer of Paris-based AXA Group, which operates around the world and is one of the largest marine insurers.

Bob is a member of RUSI’s Maritime Sanctions Task Force, which is focused on improving the effectiveness of maritime sanctions and countering sanctions circumvention. He is also Chair Emeritus and founder of the Sanctions in Insurance Roundtable (SIIR), which is comprised of the world’s largest commercial insurers, reinsurers and brokers plus the Lloyds insurance market and the International Group of P&I Clubs. SIIR works collaboratively with US and other G7 sanctions authorities on complex sanctions issues, including notably the development of the Russian oil price cap mechanism. 

Previously, Bob has been active in UN Security Council private sector collaboration on the maritime sector, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) committee that developed AML guidance for the insurance sector, the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) working group that developed AML regulatory guidance for the insurance sector, and the US Bank Secrecy Act Advisory Group.

Bob has a JD from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, an MBA from the Ivey School of Business and a degree in political science from McGill University in Montreal.
