Biography
Hani Ibrahim is a researcher and analyst with extensive experience working across East Africa and the Horn, with a focus on peace, conflict, and development. She has a strong background in qualitative analysis and context monitoring, and her work draws on a nuanced understanding of the region’s political, social, and economic dynamics.
She has been consulting with RUSI since 2024, where she serves as the lead analyst for Somalia and Ethiopia on the UK ISF-funded Borderlands Project, 'Deris Wanaag'. The initiative integrates security, development, and peacebuilding approaches to reduce violence along the shared borders of Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia.
Before joining RUSI, she worked across both government and non-profit sectors as a conflict analyst and researcher. Her work has spanned multiple countries in the region, including Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
She holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Bologna. Combining academic training with technical expertise, she employs data informed and qualitative approaches to identify trends, analyse contextual dynamics, and assess emerging risks and threats.
She has worked closely with a wide range of stakeholders, supporting the design and implementation of inclusive, evidence-based strategies for peacebuilding and sustainable development. She is particularly committed to fostering collaborative, cross-sectoral approaches that promote long term stability and informed policymaking.
