Sir David Capewell KCB OBE

Sir David Capewell served 37 years in the UK Military. His last appointment was as the UK Commander Joint Operations responsible to the Prime Minister for the conduct of all UK Global operations. Prior to that he was the Assistant Chief of Defence Staff for Operations in the Ministry of Defence.

He has commanded at all levels including a NATO Rapid Reaction Corps, 3 Commando Brigade RM and 40 Commando RM. A regular contributor to National Security Forums, he has extensive operational experience in Security Sector Reform, Strategic Resilience, Cyber and Counter Extremism. He has worked for President Mandela, was closely involved in the preparation for the UK Olympics of 2012 and the UK response to the Ebola pandemic in West Africa.

Sir David is a Senior Mentor to the UK High Command and Staff Course and is closely involved with a number of change management projects in the agile command arena. He was the Hudson Fellow at the University of Oxford in 2014/15 and remains a Senior Fellow at Pembroke College on The Changing Character of War Programme where he is the Military Advisor to the Colombia Security and Stability Project. He is a Distinguished Fellow at RUSI, and a Senior Visiting Fellow at the UK Defence Scientific Facility.

He specialises in high performance senior leadership, board advisory, corporate and digital resilience. He is a Freeman of the City of London and is closely involved with Royal Marine Charities.
