The prevailing view in Nato headquarters in Brussels is that there will be change but it will not be catastrophic or ill-thought-out. Oana Lungescu, a distinguished fellow at the Rusi defence think tank in London who was Nato’s chief spokeswoman from 2010 to 2023, said: “I think the reality is that things can turn on a dime. But right now, I don’t hear a lot of very alarmed people across Europe or at Nato.”
