Relations with the United States will not return

Europe needs to have a unified view on how the US should be handled, she says. Right now, she sees a risk of internal division in Europe; one bloc in northern and eastern Europe and one in southern Europe. She explains that France, which has long spoken about strategic independence from the US, sees recent events as further proof that they have been right all along. Therefore, they want Europe to develop its own solutions that may not fall within NATO. On the other hand, there are countries such as Poland and Norway that have a very close defence cooperation with the US. She emphasizes that the cooperation is also in the Americans' interest.
