Terrorism and Conflict
The Taliban today is a more composite organization, as they have expanded geographically. In eastern Afghanistan, they have absorbed new networks that were not Taliban, whereas the movement originally comes from the south of the country. In the north, they have recruited new ethnic groups, such as Tajiks and Uzbeks, who are not 'true' Taliban in the sense that their ideology is more aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood. Therefore, within the movement there are elements that are now closer to international jihadists."
