Overview

In 2025, the Cyber Monitoring Centre (CMC) completed independent assessments of two major cyber events, providing a clearer view of their scale, financial impact and recommendations to improve the UK’s cyber resilience. Its assessment of the financial impact of the cyber-attack against Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), in particular, has been crucial in informing the UK about the cost of large-scale incidents.

Those assessments draw on the approach the CMC has been building since its launch in 2025 : a rigorous, data-led methodology for quantifying the financial impact of major cyber incidents.

The session addresses key developments from the year, as well as discusses what has the CMC has learned from assessing the JLR event as well as from the cyber-attack on the M&S retailer, and why this matters for improving transparency and consistency in event analysis, supporting better conversation about risk, and strengthening the foundations for more resilient cyber risk management.
