Biography
Dr Nicola Pedde is a political analyst with a specific interest in the Middle East, North Africa, and the Sahel region. His academic and professional background is primarily focused on analysing the political and security dynamics of key countries in these geographic areas, with particular attention to regional security policies, conflict dynamics and energy security in the MENA and African regions.
He currently serves as Political Advisor (POLAD) to the Italian Chief of Defense, after previously holding the same position at the Secretariat of Defense – Directorate General of Armaments and the Joint Operational Command. Previously, he was the Director of Research for the Middle East at the Military Centre for Strategic Studies.
In his academic and research activities, he teaches Geopolitics of Energy and the Environment at the University of Rome Three and serves as the Director General of the think tank IGS – Institute for Global Studies, with offices in Rome and Brussels.
He holds a Law degree from the University of Rome La Sapienza, a Master’s degree in International Relations from St. John’s University (NY), and a PhD in Economic Geography from the University of Rome La Sapienza. He is the author of several books, including Geopolitics of Energy (2001), International and Crisis Scenarios (2012), and 1979 – Revolution in Iran (2019).
