Biography

Justin has been leading BT’s work on developing converged networking concepts for use in Defence. He has focused on developing concepts to extend the sharing of information between the MOD’s fixed business enterprise and deployed operations. His work is helping BT Defence develop a key element for the MOD’s digital transformation, Digital Backbone vision and support to Multi-Domain Integration.

Justin is a core member of BT’s pan-business team who developed and published BT’s latest Space Strategy. He also worked as a lead in BT’s Skynet Service Delivery Wrap solution development and bid team. He has lead BT’s thinking on applying BT’s network innovation to Defence, including demonstrating how integrated Private 5G networking and satellite communications can be used on deployed operations. Prior to joining BT Justin spent 32 years in the British Army serving in the Royal Corps of Signals.

He ran a procurement team in Defence Digital, where he was responsible for the MOD’s delivery of the Skynet 5 PFI, an international advanced satellite communications programme and the MOD’s strategic radio services. His time in the MOD also spanned operational tours, including commanding a communications regiment in Afghanistan, Whitehall procurement roles, delivering information services for a deployable NATO HQ and commanding the Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace!

Justin has electronic systems engineering degrees at Honours and Masters level, is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the IET. He also holds an MBA. He is the chair of trustees running a large 17th Century Market House for his local community in the Cotswolds.
