Thoughts on the Taskforce on a Transatlantic Response to Illicit Finance (TARIF):
There hasn’t been this much impetus in anti-corruption efforts for at least five years. In that time, we have learnt the hard way that flows of illicit finance are not only a means of impunity for kleptocrats but also a critical mechanism in threats both to our security and the institutions of democratic governance. Leaders attending the forthcoming Summit for Democracy need to go beyond lofty statements and commit to serious action. This trans-Atlantic taskforce is therefore a timely opportunity to set that course for them.
Transparency International UK, Director of Policy
TARIF aims to strengthen global democracy by identifying viable ways in which the UK and US can combine efforts in tackling illicit finance.
