Biography
Halima Buke is a Gender, Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) specialist with over 12 years of experience advancing gender equality, women’s rights, peacebuilding, and inclusive governance across government, civil society, and donor-funded programmes. Her expertise includes gender-responsive policy development, Women, Peace and Security (WPS), safeguarding, research, and programme management.
She has led the integration of GESI within complex development and peacebuilding programmes, including the FCDO-funded Deris Wanaag Peace and Stability Programme in the Kenya–Somalia–Ethiopia borderlands, providing strategic leadership on gender and social inclusion, research, policy development, and capacity strengthening. She has also contributed to national and regional gender policy processes through her work with Kenya’s State Department of Gender Affairs and civil society organizations.
Halima is passionate about translating evidence into policy and practice and advancing the meaningful participation of women and marginalized communities in peace, security, and development processes.
