European and Indo-Pacific Security Priorities Amid the China Challenge

As European countries look to rearm to deter Russia, they should not lose sight of the threats and risks in the Indo-Pacific region.

In this video commentary, RUSI’s Director of International Security Dr Neil Melvin explains that Europe’s priority remains focused on Russia, despite showing increased awareness of the China challenge to Taiwan, and the sense that Taiwan’s security is indivisible from global security.

Back from speaking at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR) Taipei Security Dialogue in early October, Dr Melvin argues that, with the US under President Trump surrendering its Indo-Pacific leadership role, middle powers from Europe and the Indo-Pacific should explore how they can start to jointly consolidate the region’s security architecture.
