The direction of travel is clear and the Pentagon spokesman actually announced on X that the Pentagon had decided to cut down the number of brigade combat teams in Europe from four to three. So that was to be expected because this is roughly taking us back to where we were in 2021 under the Biden administration before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It's not a great signal to Moscow, of course, because Russia's war in Ukraine has now entered its fifth year, but it was something that had been expected and of course there have been consultations between NATO allies with the United States on that. But the mixed and confused messaging from the White House, and from the Pentagon, of course, doesn't help."
