Whilst other IS groups in the region remain connected to the group in Portland, there are groups like Islamic State's Khorasan province operating in Afghanistan, which is much more active. Affiliates in West Africa and the Sahara are also much more lucrative for this group, which has actually been relatively quiet, particularly in its attacks. It's served as this sort of regional hub role rather than as a as a sort of an active militant movement within Puntland."
