With the swelling of activity in the north, is it time to consult the Arctic experts?

  Russian conspiracy theorists will either be disappointed or energised. In his 24 June address to the NATO Parliament in Tromsø, Norwegian State Secretary for Defence Roger Ingebrigtsen dismissed out of hand the swirling – though admittedly far-fetched – rumours that defence co-operation among Nordic countries heralded a mini-NATO in the North. He was, nonetheless, matter-of-fact about the strong links between Norway’s security interests and its northern geography.
