France in NATO: Personal Views à la Française

As NATO seeks to reorient itself following this year’s crises in Europe and the Middle East, France can use its centrality to NATO’s command structure to shape the Alliance’s decision-making

The NATO summit held in Wales in September focused predominantly on the situation in Ukraine, and signalled a growing concern for defence and deterrence on Europe ’s eastern flank. Illustrative of this was the adoption of a Readiness Action Plan, based around the creation of a ‘Spearhead Force’ able to deploy within two days to a developing crisis.
