Oil Trilateralism in the South Atlantic

The authors offer eight policy recommendations, and propose a roadmap for fostering oil trilateralism, greater South–South cooperation and sustainable development in the South Atlantic region.
The three largest oil producers in the Zone of Peace and Cooperation of the South Atlantic (ZOPACAS) – Brazil, Angola and Nigeria – can leverage ZOPACAS to enhance regional energy security, economic stability and geopolitical influence. MaĂsa Edwards and Rodrigo Pedrosa Lyra offer eight policy recommendations, and propose a roadmap for fostering oil trilateralism, greater South–South cooperation and sustainable development in the South Atlantic region. Furthermore, as the South Atlantic gains strategic importance in an increasingly multipolar world, this region is increasingly relevant for UK energy security, diversification and global engagement.
