Biography

Peter Quentin is an Associate Fellow at RUSI and was previously the Research Fellow for Land Warfare in Military Sciences.

Peter has spent the last five years as Senior Adviser to Lord Hague of Richmond and then Policy Adviser to the Rt Hon Ben Wallace MP, whilst serving as the Secretary of State for Defence. In that role he contributed throughout Ministry of Defence policy making, including on military responses to the Covid pandemic, withdrawal from Afghanistan and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as well as both Integrated Reviews, two Defence Command Papers, and several budget negotiations.

Peter joined RUSI after completing an MSc with distinction in Violence, Conflict and Development at The School of Oriental and African Studies, having earlier graduated from Cambridge University with a BA in Social and Political Sciences. He previously worked at the think tank Civitas, where he conducted research on a variety of social policy issues and managed a boxing academy for excluded youths.

Peter has over twenty years of military experience, having commissioned into the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in 2001, before transferring to the reserves and working in a wide range of roles, including on operational tours in the Western Balkans and Afghanistan. He is an experienced analyst, writer, media commentator and recovering special adviser.
