Maria Eirini is a Research Analyst in Organised Crime at the National Security and Resilience Studies group at RUSI. Her research interests include organized crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking through Dark Net and conventional markets, and globalization.
Prior to joining the institute she worked in the academia, as a Research Assistant and Teaching Fellow at the Sociology Department of University of North Texas, USA where she had developed and implemented sociological and criminological courses. Maria Eirini holds a PhD in Sociology from University of North Texas, USA. Her dissertation examined the discourse surrounding the issue of human trafficking by journalists and their audiences from a variety of British online newspapers by applying text analysis techniques. She also holds an MSc in Criminology, Criminal Justice and Social Research from the University of Surrey, UK and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens, Greece.
