John Hemmings is the Co-ordinator and a research analyst for the International Security Studies department at RUSI and has been in this position since November 2007. In 2010, he also became a non-resident SPF Fellow at the Pacific Forum, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
John conducts research for the Transatlantic and Asian Security Programmes, and is a regular contributor to the RUSI Newsbrief. His research interests at RUSI include the US-Japan Alliance, the rise of China, North Korea and proliferation issues, as well as US-UK relations, Afghanistan and whole-of-government approaches undertaken in conflict zones.
John holds an MA in International Peace and Security from King’s College, London and a BA (Hons) in Philosophy and the History of Ideas from Cardiff University. Prior to graduate work at King’s, John lived in Japan for six years.
