In this seminar, Dr Michael Kofman charts the evolution of Russian strategic thinking over the past few decades, explaining how concepts of integrated deterrence and escalation management shape the ways Russia uses its levers of national power.

Michael Kofman is the Director of the Russia Studies Program at Washington’s Center for Naval Analyses and is a Fellow at the Kennan Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center. He specialises in Russian armed forces, military thought, capabilities, and strategy. He is also a Senior Editor at War on the Rocks, and runs a personal blog on the Russian armed forces at
