  • Anyone can become a RUSI member.

  • You can join online by following the relevant links from the membership pages and then completing a short online form. Here you will be asked to share some basic details about yourself or your organisation, provide your payment details and tell us a little more about your interests.

  • RUSI Journal
    First published in 1857, this leading journal on defence and security combines academic rigour with policy relevance and is essential reading for anyone seeking to understand war and conflict, international defence and security policies, and military history. There are 7 editions of the Journal published each year, and members can access the latest articles and the full archive online at any time.


    RUSI Newsbrief
    Concise briefings on contemporary issues and trends in international security. There are 6 issues a year, with individual articles released weekly and available online for members.


    RUSI Defence Systems
    Concise briefings on strategic, conceptual and acquisition issues for analysts and practitioners in the global defence community. The print copy is produced annually, and members can access articles online as they are published throughout the year.


    Commentary articles
    RUSI commentaries provide critical thinking and rapid response analysis from some of the world’s leading thinkers, leaders and practitioners.


    Research publications
    RUSI regularly publishes a wide range of papers, reports and briefings of varying length that cover a wide spectrum of defence and security topics. Many of these papers are used to shape the thinking of leaders and practitioners, inform government policy makers and provide critical insight to civilian and military organisations around the world.

  • Each year RUSI publishes a number of additional in-depth publications, and you can opt to receive these (online and by post) for £30 per title as part of all membership packages.


    These include:

  • Your initial membership payment must be made by debit or credit card. Your joining fee will be waived if, at the time of joining, you also opt to pay any future annual membership payments by Direct Debit.

  • Memberships last a full year and can begin on any date. Your renewal date is the first of the month following anniversary of joining. So, joining on 10 February, your membership would expire at the end of February the following year.

  • All members have a right to cancel membership within 14 days of their renewal or sign-up date, and have a right to a full refund where no benefits or services have been accessed. For more information contact the RUSI Membership team at:


    Members are not entitled to a refund of subscription fees following expulsion, suspension, termination or mid-year cancellation of membership.
