The Middle East is particularly vulnerable to drone attacks “because it has a lot of centralised economic assets which are critical”, said Jack Watling, a research fellow in land defence at the London-based Royal United Services Institute. “Their countries are dependent on oil and have relatively badly-protected installations,” he said. “It’s a target-rich environment with existing conflicts occurring across large swaths of the region.”
