The OCSIA helps ministers set national strategy on cyber issues and co-ordinates government departments and agencies behind that strategy. It administers the National Cyber Security Programme, an £860 million, five year programme to tackle cyber threats and make the UK one of the safest places in the world to do business online.

In his presentation, James will discuss the progress made in implementing the programme so far and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

James Quinault CBE took up his current position in 2011, on secondment from HM Treasury. Besides previous roles in the Treasury on environment issues, ‘green’ taxes and public expenditure planning and control, James has also worked in a number of other departments in Whitehall, including in the Economic and Domestic Secretariat in the Cabinet Office, as Private Secretary to the Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service, and on secondment to the Home Office working on the overhaul of policy on criminal justice and immigration issues. Before his current appointment, he was head of the Treasury team looking after defence and security spending.
