The Defence Vetting Agency (DVA) carries out security checks for defence employees, military personnel and defence industry staff who have access to sensitive government information or valuable assets. It also undertakes some vetting tasks for other government departments on a repayment basis.

In her presentation, Jacky Ridley will discuss how the DVA has developed to become the single largest national security vetting organisation in the UK, providing vetting for about 150,000 applications annually. She will focus on the background to defence vetting in the context of shared services, e-transformation and future challenges in the current economic and security climate.

Jacky Ridley assumed her current appointment as Chief Executive of the Defence Vetting Agency in 2005. She is a career civil servant who has worked in the Department for Work and Pensions and HM Revenue and Customs before joining the Ministry of Defence. Her last role was as Head of Operations for the Benefit Fraud Inspectorate.
