A presentation by the Rt Hon Lord Smith of Finsbury, Chairman, Environment Agency.

In a less predictable climate and in a more populated world we have major responsibilities for limiting and adapting to climate change. In his presentation, Lord Smith of Finsbury will examine the direct and indirect risks to our environment in the context of energy security, food security, water resources, patterns of weather and agriculture and disruptions to global markets.

The Rt Hon Lord Smith of Finsbury served as Member of Parliament for Islington South and Finsbury from 1983 to 2005. In 1997 he became Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. He returned to the back benches in 2001, playing a leading role in opposing the Iraq war. He stepped down from the House of Commons at the 2005 General Election. Immediately afterwards he was made a Life Peer, taking his seat in the House of Lords in July 2005. In July 2008, he became Chairman of the Environment Agency - a regulator, operator and influential adviser on the environment of England and Wales.
