Whitehall Briefing: An Update on the Russia–Ukraine Crisis

A panel of RUSI experts will discuss the evolving situation in the Russia–Ukraine crisis.

On 24 February, President Vladimir Putin launched a broad Russian military offensive targeting Ukraine, after broadcasting a speech announcing a ‘special military operation’ to demilitarise the country.

The invasion follows the signing of a decree by President Putin, recognising the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as supposedly independent states. This has led to President Zelensky introducing martial law in Ukraine and a dramatic escalation of international diplomacy.

The key issues to be addressed by the panel include:

  • The latest on the military situation in Ukraine.
  • Current political developments in Russia and Ukraine.
  • Western deterrent and diplomatic activity, including sanctions against Russia.
