Professor Theo Farrell and Michael Semple will present the findings of their groundbreaking RUSI briefing paper on the state of the Taliban leadership.
Fifteen years on since operations began against the Taliban, the movement last year still made significant gains on the battlefield.
Based on one-to-one interviews with key Taliban figures, the authors will outline the state of the current leadership environment and explore whether they are ready to re-start peace talks.
Theo Farrell is Dean of Arts and Social Sciences at City, University of London, and an Associate Fellow of RUSI
Michael Semple is Visiting Research Professor in the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation and Social Justice at Queen’s University Belfast.
Sir Simon Gass is Acting Chief Operating Officer to The Commonwealth Secretariat. He was previously NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative for Afghanistan and British Ambassador to Tehran and Athens.
