Perspectives on Non-competitive Defence Spending
A discussion on single source defence procurement, organised with the Single Source Regulations Office.
The Single Source Regulations Office (SSRO) regulates the UK government’s procurement of ‘single source’, or non-competitive, military goods, works and services. In 2015/16, the Ministry of Defence spent £8.8 billion on single source defence procurement.
On 15 September, the SSRO published a discussion paper Perspectives on non-competitive defence spending which set out the views of academics, defence experts, accountants and former members of the military who had been invited to reflect on the aspects of single source procurement that work well and those where changes might be needed. International perspectives from Germany and Canada were also provided. Click here to read the discussion paper.
RUSI and the SSRO have jointly arranged this invitation only event to allow some of the discussion paper’s contributors the opportunity to expand on their views. The event will end with a question and answer session.
Speakers include:
Lord David Currie, Chairman, Competition and Markets Authority
Marcine Waterman, Chief Executive, Single Source Regulations Office
Professor John Louth, Senior Research Fellow and Director for Defence, Industries and Society Programme, RUSI
Cate Pye, Executive Director, Government and Public Sector, Ernst & Young
Professor Matthew Uttley, Chair in Defence Studies, King's College London
