To coincide with the London Somalia Conference 2017, The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Center of Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (ICEPCVE) hosts a roundtable discussion on P/CVE in the East Africa region.
East Africa has experienced a high level of violent extremism for many years, especially in Somalia, but is also at the forefront of countering it. The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has established a Center of Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE), based in Djibouti, while Kenya and Somalia are host to some world-leading P/CVE interventions.
The keynote speaker will be Dr Simon Nyambura, Director of the IGAD Center of Excellence. A panel of P/CVE and regional experts will also speak on the violent extremist threat in East Africa and on the response, drawing on current and recent research.
Please note the roundtable will be held under RUSI Rules, where prepared remarks are on the record, and the discussion and questions are off-the-record.
This event is by invitation only. For more information please contact Lieke Bos, RUSI Project Officer, on LiekeB@rusi.org.
