All Eyes on China – Reviewing the 20th Party Congress

calendarclock - (BST)

In the aftermath of the Chinese Communist Party’s 20th Party Congress, Veerle Nouwens and Professor Rana Mitter will analyse the implications of its decisions for the international community.

Opening on 16 October, the 20th Party Congress of the Chinese Communist Party will be a week-long occasion bringing together over 2,000 delegates from across the country, who will elect the leaders of the Central Committee and set China’s trajectory for the next five years.

A renewed leadership mandate for President Xi Jinping is widely predicted, but decisions here will set the course for China’s future economic, social, diplomatic and security policy, with far reaching ramifications – not only for East Asia, but for the world at large.

Senior Research Fellow Veerle Nouwens will be joined by Professor Rana Mitter of the University of Oxford to discuss the major outcomes of the Congress, the key changes announced, and most importantly, what this all means for the international community.
