A presentation by Ian Dyson, Commissioner, City of London Police.
The City of London Police is unique among forces. While policing the ‘Square Mile’ makes the force the smallest territorially, this is the UK capital’s global financial and business trading centre. More than 300,000 people from 189 different cultures and nationalities commute to work here, while 10,000 residents call the City their home. The force also has an important remit as the national policing lead for fighting economic crime, which is a key component of the government’s fraud strategy. In his presentation, Ian Dyson will discuss the challenges and priorities for policing the City of London.
Ian Dyson joined the Metropolitan Police in 1983 and has worked in many different areas including crime and drug squads, vice and strategic planning. For eleven years, he was a public order cadre trained senior officer and has extensive experience of commanding the policing of large public events. In June 2008 he joined Surrey Police as Assistant Chief Constable, overseeing some of the highest confidence levels in the country and improving Neighbourhood Policing. He joined the City of London Police as Commander in September 2010 and two years later in September 2012, Ian was promoted to Assistant Commissioner in which he led the force's change programme, City First, and is currently leading the cultural change and development programme, City Futures. His portfolio of responsibilities includes leading on Professional Standards and Equality, Diversity and Human Rights (EDHR) issues. From June 2008 to May 2013, Ian was the ACPO lead for Contact Management and led the national roll out for the 101 non-emergency number. He is now the National Policing Lead (formerly ACPO lead) for Information Assurance. In January 2016, Ian took up the appointment of Commissioner of the City of London Police.
