This event will allow participants to simulate conventional and nuclear conflict to better understand nuclear deterrence and escalation dynamics
UK PONI will be hosting a research study in collaboration with the Project on Nuclear Gaming (PoNG), a University of California-Berkeley (UCB) led effort in partnership with experts and practitioners from Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), made possible by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Participants will play the online version of SIGNAL, an experimental wargame created to study conflict escalation, deterrence, and strategic stability.
Following the day’s play, members of the team will be presenting the project during a special session of UK PONI’s 2019 Annual Conference. Members of the PoNG team will also provide an overview of the methodology, highlighting the unique ways in which wargames can be used in experimental settings to explore nuclear escalation dynamics and strategic stability.
By playing, participants will be contributing to the goals of PoNG’s research study. Participation involves:
- Bringing a computer running Chrome/Firefox browsers.
- Playing an online game with others that will take approximately 1-2 hours.
- Potentially being interviewed by members of the research team.
- Answering a questionnaire.
For more information about the study, please contact Dr. Kiran Lakkaraju (firstname.lastname@example.org)
We’re pleased to be able to make a limited number of spaces available to early- to mid-career PONI members.
