In partnership with BAE Systems, UK PONI is pleased to host a seminar that will take an unclassified look at nuclear fuel cycle and weapons technology, before considering the significance of both programmes in political terms.
2016 is likely to be a significant year for the UK nuclear community. Expected additional contract announcements for the Hinkley Point C power station project, further considerations for the Moorside site, and a parliamentary vote over the Successor submarine programme are all due to generate fresh debate over the country's nuclear future.
UK PONI and BAE Systems will therefore host a joint event in Barrow-in-Furness with participation from both the civil and military nuclear fields to examine the political and technical issues which underpin these nuclear developments. The event will start at 1700 and finish at 2000, followed by a drinks and canapes reception.
Distinguished speakers will include:
- Professor Malcolm Chalmers, Deputy Director General, RUSI
- Dr Lizzie Murray, Systems Assessment, AWE Aldermaston
- More to be announced.
This event is open to UK PONI members only. To become a member, free of charge, please visit the website. A limited number of travel bursaries are available for UK PONI members under the age of 35 and based outside of Cumbria; if you would like to be considered for a bursary please indicate this when registering for the event, or alternatively contact Hannah Croft, Programme Coordinator, at HannahC@rusi.org with your preferences.
A limited number of spaces for a tour of the BAE Systems Submarine Shipyard, taking place earlier that day, are also available for UK nationals under the age of 35.
