A conversation with David Loyn on his new book, The Long War: The Inside Story of America and Afghanistan Since 9/11, which uncovers the early failures that set the scene for this prolonged conflict.

In this wide-ranging conversation, David Loyn will draw on accounts by those who led the war through the hardest years of combat, including Generals David Petraeus, Stanley McChrystal, Joe Dunford and John Allen. He will also discuss the consequences of the US and NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the implications for the region and international security.

David Loyn, an award-winning foreign correspondent for the BBC, is an authority on Afghanistan – a country he has visited every year since 1994. In 2017, he worked for a year as an adviser in the office of the Afghan president, Ashraf Ghani. The Long War: The Inside Story of America and Afghanistan Since 9/11 is published by St Martin’s Press.
