It has never been a more critical time to examine the drivers of terrorism. Terrorism threatens two-thirds of all countries in the world. The human and financial cost is immense.
Now in its fifth year, the index is the world's leading metric for policymakers in measuring the impact and identifying the drivers of terrorism.
Dr Daniel Hyslop, Research Director for the Institute of Economics and Peace will present key findings from the Global Terrorism Index 2016. Dr Hyslop will be joined by Selena Victor, Director of Policy and Advocacy at MercyCorps and Emily Winterbotham, Senior Research Fellow in the National Security and Resilience programme at RUSI.
Topics explored on the night will include:
- How ISIL's activities - through both direct action and inspired attacks - are changing the nature of global terrorism.
- How terrorism is evolving in OECD countries.
- The economics of terrorism, in terms of both the global economic cost of terrorism and the changing funding models that support terrorism.
