Overview

In his speech, Mr Mitchell will discuss the future of UK development assistance and set out the priorities in his current role, including:

  • Increasing the quality and quantity of aid spend.
  • Working closely and collaboratively with the International Development Committee and the ICAI (International Commission for Aid Impact).
  • Addressing some of the structural challenges in the merging of the FCO and DFID.
  • Building public support for international development by making a strong case from government.

Speaker's biography

The Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP assumed his current appointment in October 2022. He was previously Secretary of State for International Development from May 2010 to September 2012. He was elected Conservative MP for Sutton Coldfield on 7 June 2001.
