RUSI is pleased to host the UK launch of a new book by Bharat Karnad titled Why India is not a great power (yet).

This is a pioneering study that makes the case for hard power (comprehensive military capabilities, agile geo-strategies, and realpolitik policies) as the short cut for India to achieve great power status - historically the route European countries in the 19th Century and Japan, Soviet Union, and China in the 20th Century, have taken to achieve this status.

Bharat Karnad is Professor of National Security Studies, Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi, India. One of the foremost national security strategists of India, he has been a member of the National Security Advisory Board, the Nuclear Doctrine Drafting Group, and Adviser, Defence Expenditure, (10th) Finance Commission, India.
