Dr Samantha Ravich, a member of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission – a bipartisan commission mandated by the US Congress, comprising leaders of federal security agencies as well as congressional leaders – and Vice Chair of President Trump’s Intelligence Advisory Board, will discuss the work of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission. The Commission, tasked with developing strategies to better defend the United States against cyber aggression, will deliver its findings to Congress later this year.
At this briefing chaired by Sir Michael Fallon, Dr Ravich will discuss the Commission’s work and findings, as well as her own thoughts on how the US and other advanced economies can better protect themselves against cyber aggression.
Dr Samantha Ravich is Chair of the Center on Cyber and Technology Innovation at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and its Transformative Cyber Innovation Lab. She is also Vice Chair of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board; a Commissioner on the Cyberspace Solarium Commission and a member of the Secretary of Energy’s Advisory Board and Co-Chair of its AI subcommittee. Previously, she was the Republican Co-Chair of the National Commission for Review of Research and Development Programs in the United States Intelligence Community and served as Deputy National Security Advisor for Vice President Cheney. Her groundbreaking work on cyber-enabled economic Warfare is shaping a growing field of study on this threat and the term was cited in the 2017 US National Security Strategy. Ravich received her PhD in Policy Analysis from the RAND Graduate School and her MCP/BSE from the University of Pennsylvania/Wharton School.
Sir Michael Fallon was Defence Secretary between 2014 and 2017, and an MP for Sevenoaks from 1997 until standing down from Parliament in 2019. Among other ministerial and cabinet roles, Sir Michael was also Minister for Business and Enterprise and Minister of State for Energy.
