Noted for it's spectacular air combat sequences this film screening will feature a short introduction to modern air combat with Justin Bronk, Research Fellow for Airpower.
In the English speaking world, fans of air combat in mainstream films have essentially had to rely on the classic 1980s Top Gun.
Few have seen the 2005 French film Les Chevaliers Du Ciel by Gérard Pirès which features even more spectacular and far more modern air combat sequences filmed with the active cooperation of the French Air Force using their Mirage 2000 fighters.
The film manages to be a slightly tongue-in-cheek action film whilst still preserving a semi-serious and highly entertaining display of some of the elements of modern air combat, arms dealing and political intrigue.
Prior to the screening, RUSI’s Research Fellow for Airpower Justin Bronk will give a brief 15 minute talk on the factors which decide modern air combat in the real world, in order to give context to the film and answer any questions from the audience.
The film is French language but will have English subtitles.
The film screening will take place in the RUSI Library at 61 Whitehall with complementary drinks and pizza
