A Year After Turkey’s Failed Coup Attempt: The Implications of Turkey’s Changing Security Environment
Though the coup was thwarted at the cost of 248 dead and 2193 injured, the repercussions are felt in every quarter of Turkish political life. Meanwhile, the Syrian War poses a threat to Turkey’s border security and its regional interests. Because of the perceived increasing radicalisation in northern Syria in particular, a few weeks after the coup Turkey decided to get more heavily involved in the crisis by launching the Operation Euphrates Shield.
This joint panel discussion aims to understand and grapple with Turkey’s changing security environment after last year's coup, the growing threats at home and abroad, and the possible trajectories Turkey might follow in the future.
