Unexplained Wealth Orders: A Game-Changer or a Distraction?

09 June 2020, 16:00
The UK authorities have recently suffered their first significant setback in the use of unexplained wealth orders (UWO). This webinar takes stock of the successes and shortcomings in the deployment of UWOs over the past two years.

It addressed how well do they match up to the challenges posed by the likes of complex holding structures and challenges of obtaining evidence from abroad? Are they attracting too much focus at the expense of other statutory powers in the fight against economic crime? What light can international experience cast on how best to implement the new powers?

  • Anita Clifford, Barrister and Principal Associate, Bright Line Law
  • James Mather, Barrister, Serle Court
  • Alun Milford, Partner, Kingsley Napley LLP and formerly General Counsel, Serious Fraud Office

The discussion was chaired by Anton Moiseienko, Research Fellow, RUSI.
