Countering the Financing of North Korea’s WMD Programme: from Sanctions to Crypto

This RUSI Under 35’s Forum event will explore the financing of North Korean Weapons of Mass Destruction Programme, and how new technology including cybercrime and cryptocurrencies to avoid detection and circumvent sanctions.

Speakers will include Kayla Izenman, Research Analyst RUSI’s Centre for Financial Crime and Security Studies and author of ‘Closing the Crypto Gap: Guidance for Countering North Korean Cryptocurrency Activity in Southeast Asia’ and Darya Dolzikova, Research Analyst, Proliferation and Nuclear Policy, who focuses on countering the financing of proliferation activities and strengthening sanctions regimes.

This event will examine the financing of North Korean nuclear weapons, the measures that have been taken against them, how North Korea has attempted to evade these including use of cryptocurrencies and an advanced cybercrime programme, and what this means for regional security.
