Communications Interoperability in a Crisis

20 September 2004, 23:00

To deliver the emergency response expected by the public and demanded by the government a fully interoperable communciations system for the three blue-light services is vital. Some suggest that the only way to achieve this is by making everyone invest in the same technology whilst some say that many of the existing networks can be made fully interoperable.

The aim of this workshop is to explore and debate the issues surrounding this dichotomy of opinion. In addition to the "hard" technolgical issues the workshop will also explore the "soft" issues surrounding communications. The workshop will ask: "Even if the technology is in place, are the emergency services, local and regional authorities and other organisations sufficiently prepared to communicate effectively in a crisis situation?"

This workshop is an excellent opportunity for Government, emergency services, local authorities and technical and behavioural specialists to meet, debate and reach a common understanding.
