NIDS Fellow: Tomoyuki Ishizu

Tomoyuki ISHIZU is currently Research Coordination Officer of the Planning Office as well as Professor of the Military History Department at the National Institute for Defense Studies (NIDS), Defense Ministry of Japan.

From October 1997 to September 1998, he was an Honorary Visiting Fellow at the Department of War Studies, KCL (from January to April 1998, he was a KCL Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Fellow as well), lecturing ‘War in History,’ ‘Military History,’ and ‘ Asia-Pacific Security 1900-2000.’  He also spent two years, as Swire Scholar, at St. Antony’s College, Oxford University.

Prof. Ishizu’s major fields of study are military history and strategic thought.

Professor Ishizu is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Strategic Studies in Japan, editorial staff of the Journal of Military History (by Japanese Commission of Military History) in Japan, and a member of the editorial advisory board of the War in History in the UK.
