Thought Leadership Project on Returning Sovereign Wealth

This research project assesses the opportunities, challenges and outlook for tracing, repatriating and reinvesting stolen national sovereign wealth and assets.

For fragile states and young democracies alike the recovery of sovereign national wealth and assets is a major security and development issue, especially after a conflict.

The emergence of an independent body of knowledge to explore the issues around this topic represents an important contribution to notions of internal stability and security.

The interactions and interdependencies between state and corporate actors, played-out within both national and international jurisdictions, are at the heart of this emerging project of research.

WORKSHOP REPORT
Returning Sovereign Wealth - The Outlook for Stolen Asset Recovery on the Global Stage

This workshop report draws on the findings of the project's first roundtable held on 6 October 2011. The report provides a conceptual base for RUSI's Though Leadership Project on Returning Sovereign Wealth. It assesses the opportunities, challenges and outlook for tracing, repatriating and reinvesting stolen assets and specifically examines the contribution of private investigators on the recovery of stolen assets.
